A near-future of interactive touch-glass everything. As presented here by Corning, gestures on stoves, cars, and rollable work-surfaces could make touch-screen glass ubiquitous through our days' activities.

Good examples of repurposed maritime containers for homes and offices abound, but this animation for House Up, by Richard Gaulthier, does a wonderful job of illustrating the architectural design process and possibilities.

I was recently struck by this packaging design, not just for its amazingly clean simplicity, but for the total brand commitment to quality and purity that it embodies. With clear glass from top to bottom, the containers, unprinted and un-engraved, claim nothing, conceal nothing, revealing only their contents in full view, from all angles. In this brand, there is no room for waxed, oiled, styled, studio-lit fruit in a digital montage.

A simple paper label, in turn, lists plainly and legibly the ingredient breakdown, which is primarily fruit and secondarily sugar. What could more plainly communicate the purity of the product, and the brand's commitement to this purity? In a final gesture of authenticity, the label includes check boxes for juice, preserve, or confit, which appear to be hand-checked.

The packaging design is part of a brand design by Atipus, Barcelona.

Inspired by the adventures in what many consider to be the first Russian Adventure Novel, Predki Kalimerosa: Aleksandr Filippovich Makedonskii, wherein the narrator travels to Ancient Greece with a travel device and voyages with Alexander the Great, this book-turned art piece features gold leaf, copper, clock gears, a glass lens, and a piano hinge, all conspicuously assembled to hide a secret feature in the spine. To top it off, artist Elizabeth Beronick Sheets has included original watercolor illustrations that fold-out, as part of this very tactile, imagination-inducing piece. This is beyond book design. The appropirately titled one-of-a-kind Time Machine can be teleshipped to its one lucky owner via The Odd Luminary—lucky indeed will its owner be.

    Why This Blog?
If you agree that Design is engrossing, powerful, challenging and stimulating, then I hope you find some inspiration from this collection of design, and design-related work.

The focus of this blog is on the context of design: because design across various fields influences life, and because life influences design, it remains a powerful voice and echo of who we are and where we might be going.

    This collection strives to showcase:

      •  poignant statements made by designers,
      • examples of inspiring problem-solving in design, and
      • trends set by designers,
      • or trends influencing designers

... and a dose of inspiring fun.
